M.S. means surgeon of mice(Mrudang Shah)
Hey, I recently took one training in order to enter into john D. Dingell VA Medical center in order to help my professor.
The training was "Rodent Surgery Training" and in this each of us had to first time try to make small incisions and than stitch the body of anesthetized rat by 3 different techniques..
1. Simple stitching using thread and curved needle
2. Stitching using special small gadget like stapler
3. Filling a small incision with bio compatible glue
It was quite good to learn that it is very difficult to handle a situation when someone's life is dependent on what you are doing..
I was not that much good in maintaining sterility and was often told to take necessary precautions otherwise I think I performed quite nice stitching.
But It did not matter at that time as all the rats were to be euthanised finally after the stitching procedures by bilateral pneumothorax procedure(by exposing lungs to outside air)
It quite often seems to me that is it justified to use such large no of animals???
But it is really necessary to help themselves and definitely the "mankind"
